High Velocity .44 Mag Loads

I'll probably be picking up a Winchester trapper carbine in .44 Mag tomorrow. These rifles are strong enough to handle the hottest .44 Mag loads (within reason).

Cor-Bon loads a 180grn load that pushes 1700 feet per second out of a revolver barrel.

Does anybody here have any high velocity loads they like to use out of a rifle? I should think that if that one load could do 1700 feet per second out of an 8" barrel, it'd be about 2000 feet per second in a barrel twice that length. (Makes .30 Carbine look even more anemic.)

I've got a 320 gr load which pushes 1401 from a 7.5" bbl.
Nothing I've used in a rifle though...

Careful there, sricciardelli! I think you meant 18.8 to 21.5

H-110 is my personal favorite for .44 mag, but I usually top out at 19 grains, don't remember bullet weight though.

How fast you want to go?

I have, out of a 10&1/2" SBH, pushed a 180 Sie to 2000 fps and if that isn't enough, there is my load which sent a 57 gr projectile out at 3100 fps.

Of course these are either above book or beyond book loads. Just thought you might like to know what is possible

No, he's spot on.

I load a 240 grain XTP over 25 grains of H110 w/ magnum primer (CCI) and that gives 1812 fps from my 16" Winchester Trapper.

According to my Lyman book...KilgoreII's numbers are right.

CAUTION One should always second source all loading specs. And double check applicability of all componants.
