GA laws on batons
I'm taking a trip to Six Flags next week and was wondering if anyone knew what the law in GA was for carrying ASP batons. In TN, you can't carry unless you've taken the training course, which I have.

Georgia Code Online (Ganet)
Search for keyword or code section number. The only return I got with a search of keyword "baton" was code section 16-10-33. You might have better luck. |

Me Too!
I am heading down to Atlanta myself for a few days, and plan on bringing my Emerson Commander, and an ASP. I study Kali and escrima, so for me this is the best combo I know. As long as nobody sees it you should be fine anyway...but we all wanna stay legal.
Still waitin on my CCW to get here in the mail. I know GA has reciprocity with IN, so I would rather just carry it. |

16-11-126.
(a) A person commits the offense of carrying a concealed weapon when such person knowingly has or carries about his or her person, unless in an open manner and fully exposed to view, any bludgeon, metal knuckles, firearm, knife designed for the purpose of offense and defense, or any other dangerous or deadly weapon or instrument of like character outside of his or her home or place of business, except as permitted under this Code section. ---------------- I'm guessing "bludgeon" encompasses an ASP, and the "knife designed for the purpose of offense and defense" would cover the Commander, but I think you'll be okay with an LEO as long as you have a CCW. You won't be able to carry an weapons into Six Flags, they have metal detectors at the gates and won't let you through with anything. |

DANG IT
My permit is due in the mail here pretty soon... And a Commander isn't your average pocket knife. Shoot. Well, if anyone starts something, I guess I'll have to practice my open hands tactics. Isn't being a weapon a great thing???

As a student of Kali, maybe you can answer this question. I know it's a Phillipine martial art form, but is the name Phillipino, or is it actually named for the Hindu goddess of death?

I have been told by Spectre that carrying an ASP is legal in Georgia if you have been certified to use it by qualified instructors. He is certified.
I was told that the Ga AG had rendered an opinion on this but I cannot find it on the AG website. I did searches for ASP, baton, club, and bludgeon. However, the site only allows searches for the years 1994-2000 and it is possible that the opinion is pre 1994. I'd call the AG's office and ask. |

Be advised that a Georgia Firearms License ONLY covers the concealed carry of a firearm - not a knife, club, bludgeon, etc.

Kali
As far as my knowledge extends, the Kali name itself is Filipino. But you caught me in an awkward moment. I can't remember what it means. I'm gonna have to think about this one and get back with you. Dang brain farts!!!

So just re-classify your "baton" as a collapsible map pointer or hammer handle ,depending on type, and you will be OK in Jaw-ga!
