Hi all
Just wondering what your favorite load to put on a show indoors. Mine has to me either 24gr of h110 behind a .44 240swc out of a 3" barrel or DELETED gr of h110, 255swc in .45 blackhawk. Both throw 2' flame and make a hell of boom. Yours?

MODERATOR EDIT: Please do not post loads which exceed published maximums without a BOLD PRINT cautionary note that one uses the data at one's own risk.

Thank you

30 grs or Win 296 behind a 180 JHP for a .44 Mag shot out of my 3" 629. I get about a 3-4 tube of blast out of the short barrel.

The max load of W296 behind a 125 JHP in .357 mag gives a nice blast from my Coonan .357 autoloader.

I have loaded up some 110 gr bullets in a 30-30 and shot them out of a 14" T/C barrel for some good blast.

Loading light bullets (300 JHP instead of a 500 gr SP) in my .460 Weatherby also has quite a muzzle blast. Since the case holds 100+ grs. of powder you get allot of it coming out of the short barrel of my Ruger #1H.

Blue Dot

In hot .357 w/ 125gr bullets, 4" revo, you get some INCREDIBLE, photo-flash results. I swear, I think it singed the hair off the knuckes of my hands. Just phenomenal. If bright is what you want, Blue Dot is how you get it.

I've not loaded a round specifically for a show, but a full charge of Power Pistol in my .357sig does make a fine flare. I figure I got a good deal with that gun; a hard hitting round with a built in flash-bang.

Many years ago I used to load (if I remember right) 18.5 grs of W-296 in .357 Mag for a friend of mine. Used to set dry grass on fire when he would shoot from the prone position.

I get flame thrower effect from military 7.62x25mm loads ina CZ52.

I also get flame thrower [and LOUD]effects from hot handloads of Power Pistol in 9mm.

Those Moisin Nagant carbines are flame thowers with the military ammo. How did they beat the Germans with that?

Just about anything listed in the little Winchester reloading phamplet for WW296 is a real flame thrower. They recommend that the loads not be reduced.

The little Winchester phamplet lists 18.5 gr WW296 under a 125gr JHP with WSPM and a heavy crimp in 357 mag. I've loaded this and it's a flame thrower, a barn burner and a real attention getter. The Sierra 3rd edition lists 18.6 gr under a 125 jhp in 357 as the "starting" load and goes up to 21.1 gr. This is too hot, I did 21.1 gr in my GP100 and the primer started to swage into the firing pin hole. It'll burn the hair right off your cheeks, and I don't mean facial hair. :-) Yikes!!

You know how you have to leave the bayonet extended to get consistent groups with the M44? There's you answer!

bigboredave,

I've had a lot of fun with a 240 grain .44 mag softpoint with 24 grains of Winchester 296 powder. This is shot out of a 3 inch bar. S&W mdl. 629.

It's the only gun I have that has scared away tourists from the range.

The 300 grain rounds we made tried to remove themselves from the brass case because of the recoil. We stopped making that load.

(MAKE SURE to look this load up. I don't have my notes with me.)

If ya'll want to see a fire ball, try a 357Sig loaded aith 124 grain Jacker Hollow point over 10 grains of Blue Dot. You will have a bright white ball about a foot in diameter.

As one guy at the range told me after seeing me touch of these..."If you miss the bad guy with the bullet, the noise and flash will make him keel over from a heart attack!"
