Tariffs on Gun Parts Imported by Individuals
I purchased some Marschal grips for my P230 last month and they should arrive here around the end of this month or early June. Since the import tariff is currently at 10% with Hungary I’m curious how or if they might be assessed.
Will I pay them to the Post Office, will Customs hold them until I pay or are individual buyers exempted from tariffs? Anyone experience this yet? If so, how did it go? Thanks |

Short answer--I don't know for sure--because a lot depends on the shipper producing the export documents first. Since it's manufacturing for firearms that will likely add an extra "layer" to the import process. If the manufacturer arranges for customs documents review in advance they will probably let you know if a tariff is due before they ship I would think--but this stuff is confusing for everyone and changes seemingly on a weekly basis. Otherwise--I would say it will probably be held by customs where the imported parts come in (likely an airport) while they examine documents and determine the import category (a number--there are thousands of them) and whether an additional tariff fee is due--and yes you'll probably have to pay it to get it released.

My understanding (and it could be flawed) of the tariff process is that the importer pays the tariff. If that's a company, they pay, then generally pass the cost on to the consumer. If its you importing the item, then you pay the govt the tariff.

It will depend on how the shipper declared the package with customs. You may need to pay a tariff, since it is parts not likely it will be much money.

Received My Grips
Just to update this thread if anyone might be interested. I received my grips from Marschal yesterday via the Post Office. There were no additional duties or tariffs on the grips. I guess us small fry are exempt or maybe there aren't any tariffs on goods from Hungary?
In any case the pics below don't do the grips proper justice. They're really great looking on the SIG and feel like a natural fit in hand as well. I highly recommend Marschal Grips. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
