Building a SIG P365 - Thoughts?

I have experience building up lots of gun projects, Glockalikes, etc. Recently got "some" parts for a Sig P365 and am embarking on this build.

Any helpful thoughts of tips to pass on before I start acquiring the other items needed?

Thanks in advance.

Never heard of anyone building a p365. I had heard you could remove the guts, not quite as easy as a p320. And swap between the standard and xl frame, so i assume it's doable...

It’s an FCU system just like the P320. You can build one out yourself if you have the FCU.

Yes, SIG FCU's are available just like Glock frames.

Nothing to it. You can break down the P365 guns with the FCU in your hand in under 1 minute without racing. Except for the "XXL" versions from ShaloTek, I don't think there exists either innovative or concerning to get too excited about. Go wild and probably zero chance of issue.

The Sharps Bro grips do look nice for sure.

If you're planning to build your own FCU from an 80% sheet steel stamping, I'd suggest checking with the dedicated builder forums.

From what I understand (and this is internet lore-please confirm) it's better to use a press to do the bends, rather than a hammer, though both can work.

Love to see what you come up with.

Thanks all. This will be a plain-jane build. I've done P80 builds, a few Glok up-builds, and AKM's from receiver-flats so wasn't thinking there was anything magical. Just didn't know if there was any out-of-the-ordinary sage guidance like "receiver pin goes in L-to-R always!!!" or anything.

So some SIG FCU's come with flat triggers, some with curved. Is it just personal preference? Trigger parts are available to swap, but all my other handguns with the exception of a target Buckmark have curved triggers. Can anyone give me good rationale for the flat trigger?

I have guns with flat and guns with curved. I like curved better but dont mind flat in pistols.
In rifles (AR’s) i dont like flat at all.

It is the new fad.

I “built” a 365 Fuse. Bought the upper and lower separately, and got it decently cheaper than what I can find them for. Lower came with the flat nickel trigger.

Bought standard one from SIG, disassembled and put the curved trigger in. Like it better.

I have 7 p365s.

The curved is better in every way.

Feel, the only thing that matters, the pull lighter, break nicer, reset faster, dont bite at the end, and heat shield better.

I like the flatter trigger better. It adds a bit of reach for my finger and I find that works better for my hand. I have the flat and the curved triggers and I don’t notice any significant difference in the pull personally. They’re cheap enough that you can try both and see what works best for you.

Thanks, lots of good opinions here. I prefer curved triggers but am not above trying the flat in later stages if needed. The flat trigger on my Target Buckmark is a very precise, low pull-weight trigger for target shooting, which I don't see my P365 filling any time soon.

I THINK all the FCU orders come with the flat now as they are perceived as "nicer."

True or not, $50 dollar difference.

Let us know how it goes. I don't think you can spend less buy building your own though, specially as they discount the old style optic plate and the non optic ready standard sized.

Thanks. My build is actually coming out fairly cheap, and is for CCW so no optic will be used. All plain-Jane parts. My thinking is at a 3.1" barrel, accuracy should be minute-of-man-sized chest at fighting distance, not much needing an optic (or the added size).

I find it easier to get consistent trigger finger placement and pull with curved. You can supposedly get better leverage with a flat trigger but I don't think that really is much of a benefit as my trigger finger is already touching the bottom of a curved trigger on most guns. The flat looks better...

If I spent 3 months only shooting flat triggers I'd probably argue that flat is better because that is what I'd be used to at that point.

Did you buy a SIG FCU? Once you have that everything else should be pretty simple.

Are all 365s plastic, how about the 320s? I'm an old fart, we don't do plastic or lights or optics or beams etc. We do like Sigs, the steel ones LOL

Most of the classic line SIGs have an aluminum frame. Do old farts do aluminum?

Yes, we do aluminum. I have a 229 and a 226 and had a 220 and 239. I haven't come across the right 239 yet, I've had 2 and didn't keep them but a really nice two tone in 357 Sig would be a keeper. I'm not fond of the 220. Actually, I have a Kahr PM9 which has a plastic frame, the only plastic frame pistol I own but it is a good one, and I would consider a 365 I suppose. A lot of my previous post was in jest other than I am an old fart!
