Lyman 1860 Army revolver information
Hello,
I dug out a boxed Lyman 1860 Army out of my safe that I have forgotten about. I tried getting a date of manufacture for it. I wasn't surprised when I didn't find a year of manufacture by serial number. It's number is in the 29,000 range for anyone that might have an idea. It's a four screw model with a cut out for a pistol stock. I don't know if any 1860 Army stock would fit it as I have no idea if this feature was ever standardized. I suspect not but I had to ask It is in beautiful shape and never fired. It came with accoutrements. If anyone has a stock for it that they would like to sell or any information on this revolver then please chime in, |

I found out that my Lyman 1860 Army was manufactured in 1980. Previously I didn't realize the frame, like all Italian clones required the year of manufacture, required a stamp with a date code. I downloaded the one page and found the year. One question down.

It was made by either Armi San Paolo or Uberti. Both made pretty decent guns in the 70's. The ASP is closer in size to the original. Uberti is a little bigger. I think you can make pretty much any stock fit with a little work. There's no reason to keep it pristine. Not shooting it is not going to make it worth much more than a fired one.

As sirdutch stated there will be a date code, it's two capital letters in a square box. Find that then just google Italian gun date codes.

Yeah, I was wrong on the date. I guess I do need reading glasses or better lighting.
The two caps in the box are AF so it's actually a 1980, Mr Hawg. Oh, and thanks on the heads up on the stock as well My Lyman has the DGG in a circle by the serial number in front of the trigger guard. Would that make this an ASP or an Uberti? |
