223 hollowbase bullets

I have some 224 hollow base bullets that are not FMJ. It appears I'am looking at lead inside the 62 gr boatail bullet. It is sort of a slight hollow base bullet. The manufacturer says they are a drawn copper alloy lead core bullet. Would these be considerd plated bullets? How much reduced load?

Classic full metal jacket. TMJ or total metal jacket covers the whole bullet including the base. I think its kinda become history but FMJ bullets used to be all like that. Now what we call FMJ is what used to be called TMJ. Kind of confusing.

How consistent are the bases? Below is a picture of three bullets out of the same bag of Winchester 55gr FMJ.

Accuracy wasn't phenomenal...

The ones I have are 62 gr from Bullet Heads in Ca. They look to be all identical. I chose 5 random pics and all weighed just under 63 grains. I'am loading 100 now and will see how they shoot tomorrow. They cost $95 for 1000.

These bullets are not for any type of precision shooting. Five inch groups at 50 yds. I shot 1/2 inch groups before and after with 69gr Sierra's with the same rifle on the same rest.

That is not good at all . If you can I'd send them back . I've done some AR load development at 50yds using a 5moa red dot and shot 1" groups using Hornady 55gr FMJ-BT bullets . Although I did have a few charges that grouped in the 3 to 4 inch range . Was that just one charge or was that the best you could get those bullets to group trying many different charges ??

I shot them with 21.5 and 22 gr of benchmark with same results. I surely need to try some other loads. My AK's shoot better with no rest and irons. I own 1000 of these 62 gr Bulletheads. I may email the company or their best load data.

I've had a 4 gr swing in bullet weight with those same winchester 55s, yup from mid 53gr to mid 56gr out of the same bag. I wont buy any more of them.

OP :

I did not see what sight you are using - irons , dot , scope ??? I stopped using the irons and dot when doing load development . I only use a scope and always at 100yds now . I use a scope because it allows me to really lock in on the bulls , At 100yds because the farther you shoot the more reliable the results as far as what you and your rifle can do . I have a dedicated scope on a single piece mount I can just switch from rifle to rifle .( AR platforms ) all bolt guns have there own sights/scope .

Plated bullets use cast bullet data, but I don't think you have plated .223. Who made 'em?

They were shot with a bench rest and a Leupold 3x9 AR 223 scope at 50 yds.

I will shoot the rest of the 1000 in a SBR at 25 yds with a Eotech for fun.
