Media
Does anyone have experience with tumbling media I see at Harbor Freight? I'm talking about glass beads and such.

I use HF walnut media, and it is OK. I need to examine and poke through any media stuck in the flash holes.
HF also has replacement bowls (mine came with the media) that fit my Franklin Arse tumbler. Glass beads are not used to tumble brass. Corn cob media gives the best shine. I typically use a 50:50 mix with walnut. Any auto polish can be added to the running media before the brass, to mix it in and prevent clumping in case necks.

Marco Califo,
I was curios about other dry media thinking I might go back to it. I quit using dry media a couple of years ago when I bought my first ultra sonic cleaner. The ultra sonic doesn't make the brass sparkle but it does an ok job with shine, it cleans primer pockets nicely and it cleans inside the case neck and body. Primer pockets are cleaned well enough so I don't have to do it by hand. I de-prime prior to using the sonic. When I was tumbling, I would de-prime after tumbling to avoid clogging primer pockets. |
