I'm also building a turish 98 , Having a problem with getting a barrel. I would like to get a 308, Where do you find a barrel? It is a large ring receiver with small ring barrel threads.

When one builds their first gun, and gets their hands dirty, they then understand what gunsmithing is all about. I always did say that you have to understand how something works in order to work on it, and this is the best way to understand one.
I am not sure how many gun schools, now, have the trainees build up a gun from scratch, but it is a good method to learn the ropes. Last, there are several manufacturers making barrels, a quick search on google generally turns up loads. Links: Barrel Manufacturers http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts...prod16633.aspx |

Other little kids on the playground talked about bending Mauser bolt handles in 1961.
I sporterized one Mauser between 1965 and 1970. Then I started up again in 1999 and have many dozens in various states now. In 2011 I finally killed a deer and an antelope with a VZ24 I converted to 7mmRemMag. Sporterizing Mausers and going hunting has been a plan that took 53 years for me to make it come together. I hope you and your son move faster than I did. |
