Trit Night Sights: Care when cleaning?
Newbie Q: will gun oil and cleaning solvents damage the tritium night sights on my Sig P250? When I clean the piece I like to spray the whole slide inside and out out with Remoil, wipe it off, then attack the inside of the slide with the Hoppes solvent. Can the Remoil damage the Trit night sights if it gets in them and stays in for a while? if so, is there something benign that I can use to temporarily plug up the dots to keep the Remoil out? Maybe a bit of window rope-caulk?

They're sealed up pretty tight.
You could probably mess them up if you tried, but I've never taken any particular care with mine and nothing's ever happened. I don't know if it would be a good idea to submerge/soak them in anything too "penetrating" but even that might be okay. Someone who knows more will probably tell you. But in the meantime I wouldn't stress about it. How you like the 250? Every time I see one I'm tempted. |

They are impervious to cleaning solvents. You wont hurt 'em one bit. Clean as described.

Thanks for the reassuring info - Whew!
Dayman - I love the piece. Very well balance of weight in the slide while the rest of the gun is very light weight. Excellent trigger and sights. Just love to shoot it. |

I've never done one single thing to protect my night sights when cleaning. Keep in mind, though, that repeated exposure to solvents over 12 years or so will cause them to be noticeable dimmer than they were when new.
![]() (In case you don't get the joke, tritium has a half life of 12.5 years, so over the years they will dim and need replacement.) And yeah, some of mine are P250s with night sights. Good solid guns. |

Can't hurt them. I've have my night sites on my Glock for over 20 years and beat the heck out of the gun - they even still have a little glow to them.

I have several with night sights and have never had any problem with any normal solvents.
