Thinking about shooting a 3rd gen Walker
I have some 2nd and 3rd gen unfired colts in store that are new in box and of course unfired. I have a 3rd 150 anniversary Walker that supposedly has never been fired but I do not have it's box or paper work. I looked on gunsinternational and they are offered for 800 to 1000 w/box. I really think I want to take it to range and shoot it. Would you?

No I don't think I would If I was planning on selling them. But since you don't have the paperwork for that one would you have to sell it as fired or what? IF you do I guess fire away!! for the new ones I wouldn;t Can you post pics, these are made by colt right? Not Repro's?

355 Whitney Rd, Spartanburg,Sc. I have not fired it yet! It is a 3rd gen Colt made by colt black powder arms that were licenced by Colt to reproduce their guns in the 90's. Now defunct. It does have Colt and and NY address on barrel and colt stampings. Some say they are Colts -some say they are not. They are listed in the Colt book as being Colts but made by Uberti. I know a gentleman that retired from this licensing Co stating that they were all inspected by Colt reps before shipping since they were labeled as Colts. In my opinion, they are. All were labeled as colt signiture series and came in gray box with pic of Sam Colt stating "THE AUTHINIC BLACKPOWDER" Hum--they are collectibles though.
Do you want it before I smoke it up? [email protected] |

I just looked on Cabela and you can get one for 400. I can't sell this for that. It has sat in disply for over a year. Either I sell it for 750 or I guess just take it to range and shoot it. After getting my jollys off and hopefully not roughing it up it might be worth $550 + Or it just sits there. I'm tired of it just sitting there. I never shot one. It came w/ generic flask. But --why not?! Tell me no again!

The Walker produced and sold thru Cabela's does $399. I have that
Uberti. The Colt Walker produced by Uberti, possibly assembled by Colt and sold in a Colt box seems to do anywhere from $600- 800 on GunBroker. I have enjoyed my Walker for about 6 months -- just a fun revolver. When I take guests to the range I make certain the Walker comes with. Anyone new to shooting just loves the gun. The fit and finish on the Uberti thru Cabela's is superb. Just my .02 David ![]() |

I am going to shoot my 3rd gen walker Wed. And before I go, I am taking it to a gunshop nearby where the guy loves guns and has gotten interested in this type of stuff. If he gives me 650 to 750 it is his-if not it is a SMOKEPOLE and I don't care what yall say -if someone asks is that a real colt walker--Ima gonna say yes. Actually, I think I will have more success selling it to someone that knows it is used. That way, they don't feel bad about shootin an unfired collectible--can't wait.

Hardy-- Sounds like yours IS a Colt Walker, just not made in
the Northeast Colt factory. As I understand it, Colt boxed Walkers were assembled by Colt in the USA from parts shipped from Italy. Keep in mind that Uberti is a Beretta/Benelli owned company, so your revolver is no slaaaaaack firearm. My 2 cents. David ![]() Remember to cover the cylinders with wads/cookies or grease. |

bn12gg, those were the second gens. Hardy is talking about a third gen signature series. Colt had no part in the manufacture of those.

Finial machining, finish, roll marks and assembly was done in the USA. C series 2nd Gen at Colt F series 2nd Gen by Big Louie and inspected by Colt 3rd Gens by Big Louie and have the Colt name only. Old magazine articles. Quote:

ASM supplied parts too, Barrels I know of. That's where the ASM's with Colt barrel addresses came from. They used the barrels they got stuck with at the end of production.

Wow! Great info. Obviously, I know just about enough to
be dangerous. What do you guys think about prices by generation, let's say NIB prices. Obviously, an original in nice shape goes for big money. Thanks David ![]() |

Fire Away!
Hardy, if I hear you correctly, the gun is sitting there and basically collecting dust. You cannot locate the paperwork, and you are dying to fire it (you've pretty much said the same thing). I know the feeling! Fire it--you'll feel better!
If money was our primary concern, we wouldn't spend time discussing our wonderful hobby. We'd focus on making money, like my brother, and miss the fun of life. Thanks, TallRay Last edited by TallRay; January 8, 2012 at 12:45 PM. Reason: Forgot my Name |

And you'll see them listed on GI, GA, and GB for a long time to come too. They are way overpriced.

Just shooting it won't deteriorate the condition from 100% to 90%. Just shooting it shouldn't affect condition at all, assuming you handle it carefully and clean it thoroughly. 100% condition does not imply that a gun is unfired or unturned; it simply means it's in perfect condition. And it can still be in perfect condition after being fired. If you're going to shoot it and not take care of it so that it's condition deteriorates to 90% (which would require substantial abuse over a signifcant period of time), then you should not fire it. |

Umm, well, I usually differentiate between NIB (New In Box, which is by definition unfired and unturned), and 100% condition. I understand that some folks feel they're the same, however, I don't.
To me, 100% condition implies that it may have been turned and even fired, but one can't tell without a very, very detailed inspection which may involve disassembly (and thus possibly invalidating the condition). In advertising a gun (sorry, Doc) for sale I will make clear that my definition of 100% means it may well have been fired, just because many people assume it means unfired. |
