10 gauge reloading

I'm thinking of taking the plunge into the 10gauge world. I'm a fan of Mec presses and I've been looking at Ballistic products web site for components.

Does anyone else load for 10g ?? Which Mec press are you using and why. I'm thinking either the 600jr or the steelmaster presses.

Are there any quirks to loading the 10? Best hulls for loading? I currently load for the 12 & 20 gauge & use Rem STS, Win AA, or Fed Gold medal hulls for them.
Any better way to get short hulls besides cutting down 3.5" hulls.

My intended use is for turkey & coyotes. Geese could be targets if I decide to do a guided hunt.

Your thoughts please

I reload 12, 20, 28ga and .410 ....but not 10ga ..(and I use all MEC 9000-HN's ) but you don't need that kind of volume in a 10ga press.

The only guy I know that reloads 10ga - uses the Mec Steelmaster and he likes it. Last I knew he was buying his components thru Recob's Target shop.. but I don't see how you can cut down a hull ( you'll lose the crimp )...

I belive he was loading REM Nitro 10ga hulls in 3 1/2" ....

Rather than cut down a hull for a 10ga / I would just go with a 12ga load ...

1200 fps is 1200 fps whether its out of a 10ga or a 12ga is irrelevent...they both hit just as hard ...

The reason I'm thinking of cutting down the 3.5" shells is wad column spacing for a light load. Something like 1 1/4oz in a 10 gauge is a light load. Why? Because this would give me a clay target load that doesn't make me flinch.

I haven't loaded any unfired hulls, but pictures show them without crimp. I'm guessing you form the crimp, not just recrimp when using new hulls.

I brought home the new toy, a Browning BPS 10. Now to find ammo & reloading supplies
