Red dot setup for Bulgarian AK: Armory USA SSR-85

I am trying to find the best red dot setup for an SSR-85-C2, it is an Armory USA gun, but they have been out of business for years and Tennessee Guns (TGI) now does the SSR-85's.

I read in another thread that a sweet setup is an Ultimak railed gas tube with an Aimpoint micro red dot.

Will this fit my AK? I already have a replacement dust cover with rails on it, but this may put the red dot too far back to co-witness with iron sights?
Want a tough waterproof optic but also want irons as a backup. While these are quite accurate for a stamped AK I have heard people say the most they would ever put on any AK is a red dot..

Does anyone else have one of these, specifically the older Armory USA version?

I am also looking for any specific info about this gun (maintenance tips, accessory tips, what parts to keep on hand), as I do not have experience with AK's and it seems harder to find info/advice/accessories for these as they are not as common as, say, a WASR. And yes I have a castrated gun with welded muzzle brake (gone) and no bayonet lug.

Thanks!

Ultimak. Works great with an Eotech... can't speak for the Aimpoint.
