9mm Titegroup Load

I am developing some 9mm Luger loads for IDPA. My goal is to have 1000-1100 FPS.
Using 125 gr LFP Moly-Poly bullets. Titegroup powder. COL : 1.120”

My Chrony results at 15’ (10 rounds per test):
4.0 gr @ 1.120” avr. 1253 FPS
3.6 gr @ 1.120” avr. 1195 FPS
3.2 gr @ 1.120” avr. 1146 FPS

Hodgdon Reloading Center Guidelines:
Hodgdon (125 gr LCN)
3.6 gr/1.125”/1002 FPS (min)
4.0 gr/1.125”/1096 FPS (max)

DO I DARE TRY A CHARGE LESS THAN 3.2 GR?

I'm assuming you need to make Minor PF, right? If so, I see no reason you could'nt drop down more. If you're worrying about a light charge, I don't think there's a risk there...I shoot 3.2 grains of TG under a 180 FP in .40 caliber. The chrono numbers for your load does seem a bit high to me but if you're confident in them, getting down to 130 +/- PF should'nt be a problem if the gun runs OK.

Is your barrel longer than the test barrel the manual's velocities were measured from?

At any rate, you should tune your powder change to get the velocity you want in YOUR gun.

Just curious if you are shooting or planning on shooting at the state or national level in IDPA. Thats the only place I would see them possibly crono the load. My next thought is about pressure due to the extra space now available with reducing powder

I am shooting locally at this point but the IDPA power base loads sound like a perfectly reasonable place to be. I find the loads to be comfortable to shoot and for target and practice there is really no reason to shoot anything hotter.

What case pressue issues do you forsee in reducing the recommended minimum loads?

IDPA chrono's at 10 feet min pf for 125's would be 1000 FPS

Yes, so 1000-1100 FPS gets you to the power floor with a little wiggle room for normal variations from cartridge load to cartridge load.

In 9MM pistol, using Titegroup....none, provided you don't go so low it squibs. Loaded to the Minor floor presents no pressure problems...the "detonation" thing is non-issue.
