opinions on 9mm powders.
Does any one use power pistol for there 9mm loads.
Ive been mostly using 231/hp38 and it works ok,but I have to run a max load to get to minor power factor for Idpa.Unique gives me all the velocity I need and then some but doesnt meter as consistant,Im thinking about trying Power pistol.Would like some input on this powder, how does it meter, how clean, accuracy ect.I still have 5lbs unique and 5lbs of 231 but I can burn it up in the 45s. thanks,Bob. |

Power pistol should do fine for you. It is a fine grained ball powder, like 231, but slower burning, of course. HS-6 is similar and is another possibility for you.

Power Pistol will take you there and give you the light show and big boom at no extra charge. Silhouette will get it done with a lot less flash & awe.

I have been using Power Pistol exclusively in 9mm for some time now. I use it both with 125gr LRN and 124gr FMJ bullets. Come to think of it, I use it with 125gr Plated RN as well. It uses a heavier charge than most powders would call for in 9mm, but I find that it runs nice and clean and gives me fine accuracy.
Meters as well as any powder I use and I can use it in a number of different calibers, so it's my favorite powder. I buy it in four pound jugs.

I've found Ram Shot Silhouette to be excellent for 9mm and 40. It's actually the same as discontinued Winchester Action Pistol.
Velocities uniform, it fills up most of the case (making dbl. chgs. impossible) and is as clean as most other good powders, and meters very well. Works ok for .45, but velocity deviations aren't as good as for 9 and 40. ![]() |

kinda the same -- data interchangeable
Silhouette got enhanced flash reducers; man I still gotta lotta WAP.......
Easy "9mm powder" answer is Power Pistol (and apparently many Bullseye shooters use it, too). Last edited by WESHOOT2; March 26, 2010 at 09:41 AM. Reason: spacing |

Power Pistol is an excellent powder for 9mm. It has provided the top accuracy out of all my loads.
I've found that it does well in the high pressure cartridges that I reload (9mm, 40 S&W, and I occasionally use it in 357 Magnum). It burns clean, and doesn't use itty bitty charges, so the case gets filled up nicely. I've heard so much about Ramshot Shilouette, so that's next on my list, but it will be hard to out-do Power Pistol. Without getting too off track, I recall working up a load for my CZ-75. I was in the upper end of the charge weight range, and every time I'd pull the trigger, I'd get curious glances from people down the firing line. Eventually, a guy came up and asked, "What the **** are you shooting?!" I guess the muzzle blast and sharp report gave the impression that I was shooting something mightier than a mere 9mm... ![]() |

I've gone from Unique to Universal Clays because I also use it for 38, 28 gauge and 20 gauge

I've tried others, but I always come back to AA#2. It burns clean and meters very consistantly.

I too also use Titegroup for 9mm, 357mag(target), 44mag(target). I think my brother will switch over from Unique once he is done with his 1# bottle. It just meters so much nicer AND is consistent in charges thrown too, compared to Unique's large flake design. Trouble now is trying to find Titegroup that is in stock. I have found that 9.2gr of Titegroup behind 240 "Keith style" lead bullet seated at 1.620" COL works nicely in my Ruger Super Blackhawk.
