M1 Garand feed problem

I have an M1 Garand set up for 7.62 that shoots accurately but on occasion slams the cartridge into the end of the barrel/receiver rather than smoothly into the chamber. Any thoughts/recommendations? I'm using nothing but Lake City and British Radway Green ammo. Needless to say these incidents makes me nervous when the round is that close to my mug.

HI CG
There used to be a block of metal that was made to fit inside an M1 that had been converted to 7.62 NATO. The block prevented one from inserting a clip of 30-06 and I believe helped with feeding. You can insert it yourself, it should help. The remainder of the issue is that the clip in your M1 is not sitting at the correct angle. The problem might be the clip or clip latch itself. It's been some time since I had my M1 torn down, be sure the follower and follower arm are not bent or installed wrongly in the case of the follower.
Best,
Rob
