cast bullet source in San Antonio
anyone know of a good source for cast bullets in San Antonio? Looking mostly for 38/357s and 9mm
the mail order guys have them cheap, but the shipping is equal to the order most of the gun shops here have problems lately getting ANY kind of components. I got lucky finding a couple of big bags of fired brass in those calibers, and that should last me a while ( it was a lucky find ) Bass Pro shops always has jacketed stuff, but that's too expensive for range ammo and long practice runs anyone? |

www.pennbullets.com uses the USPS flat rate ship for 70 lbs for 10.00. There are others as well that use the flat rate. look around.

Finding anything locally is a challenge these days. We have Kead bullets here in North Texas, but they are routinely out of stock on just about everything. If you have any local gun shows, check with the guys who sell reloads and components--Southwest Ammunition Supply (206 W Davis St Mesquite, TX 75149 (972) 285-3644) attends nearly all of our local shows, but if you are looking for .452 SWCs, get there on Saturday, earlier the better, or you may go home empty-handed. If they attend any of your local shows, make friends with them. Most of the others only sell jacketed bullets.
I have done business with Penn Bullets. It was around two years ago, and I was brand new to reloading, so I got the gentleman on the phone. He seemed like a good guy, and was willing to talk a bit and give me some advice. I placed an order that day (500 each of two types of .452 bullets, and 500 each of two types of .357 caliber). Took a bit longer than I expected, but that was okay as I was buying powder, primers, books and other odds and ends. Their shipping charges were very reasonable using the flat rate box (IIRC it all fit into one box) but my postman probably hates me now. Oh well. ![]() I have since used all of the .45s I received, and have also used several other brands. In my (obviously less than expert) opinion, I found the Penn bullets of good quality and fair price. I will say that I found the 200gr SWCs to be a better choice for 45acp, and ended up using the remainder of the 200 gr TCFP for 45LC. I have not started reloading for .357 yet, so I cannot report on those bullets, but have confidence that the Penn Bullets will perform well. Last edited by orionengnr; March 7, 2009 at 07:46 PM. |

Mike is in Carbodale, IL. He casts a great bullet and is very friendly to talk to. His bullets have a high bhn and have little leading problems under 1200 fps. The biggest advantage is that he will ship via usps using their 9.99 flat rate shipping. I just received 1000 .3575 158gr AND 1000 .430 240gr bullets for 9.99 plus insurance that was about $2 (thats 2000 total for around $12 including insurance). Here is his website:
