OORAH for 35 gr V-MAX
Enough snow has melted around here so I could get down to my range and test some of my hand loads for my hornet. At a hundred yds they grouped under an inch for 3 5 shot groups. My neighbor has a dairy operation and 1 of the things you can not have around a dairy is pigeon and he has plenty.I went down to his place to see if he wanted to try knocking a few off.The 1st 1 I hit exploded all that was left was the wings and 1 foot we got 5 more before they hit the road and the result was the same on all of them.My load is 12.8 grs of Li'L gun with a 35 gr V-MAX before my crony took a dump I was seeing 2980 to 3050 fps.Does anyone know how to figure out FT-LBS of energy these rounds were putting out? Also do you think this load would have enough penetration on a coyote at say max of 150 yds?Or would it just blow up?I am really impressed with this bullet as I am a comitted Hornet shooter Thanks ELMOUSMC Mgunnerysgt USMC 1965-1992

HORNADY shows a V max of 35 gr. Has a BC of 0.109
But no charts. The best I can do is with the Sierra book shows a 40 gr at 3000 FPS with muzzle energy of 799 FT-LB for the HORNET. 650 at 50 yd, 476 at 100 and still 151 at 300. I would say you’re within 10 % of that easily. Sorry I looked at all the books but nothing for the 35. One question,,, I have never been on a farm with cows,,, why no pigeon’s??? |

Thanks for the Info
Thanks for the information, thats really carring some impact for a 35 gr. pill.So I guess with #s like that it ought to work on the song dogs. The reason you can't allow pigeons around class A daries is fecal contamination of feed stocks which transilates into bacterial levels in the milk and sick cows.Hey thanks again guys ELMOUSMC

Ozzieman thanks! I'm getting to that stage in life where the more I learn, the less I know!
I like the ballistic charts in the older Hornady book for reference out at the farm where we don't have internet. But its nice to can fine tune it with the calculator based on different BC's. |

Well after a little screwing around I got the info I needed but I still am a little leery about how this round will perform on songdogs(hair and hide) as compared to feathers ELMOUSMC

ELMO,
Hear is one that I use that may be alot more info than you want, but it's there if you need it. you can change the yardage to fit your needs, I usualy mark it for every 25-50 yards for the longer shots. See what you think. http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/calculati...culations.html |

Trajectories Basic is the one I use the most as it gives all the information on one format.

You're welcome sir. I use the card option as well and you can reduce it and take it with you. But, garbage in, garbage out. You have to chronograph your loads, take an acurate measurement of your scope hieght before you enter the information. after that, you're in.
