CCI Primers
What is the difference between CCIBR2 and CCI200 primers? I usually use the cci200 but the place I normally get them only has ccibr2 right now. Are they interchangeable?

Yes. You can use the BR2 primer for any recipe that calls for the standard large primer. The BR2's are more expensive. I found that they were more uniform in ignition in that the round-to-round velocity was more uniform with them. I use the BR2 exclusively in all my rifle reloads (except for those that take the BR4 of course!)

The bench rest primers are generally on the milder side. The idea being you want the powder to do the work the powder is supposed to do and not dislodge the bullet with an overly aggressive primer before the powder ignites as designed. I notice a difference with my 221 Fireball, bench rest primers (in this case CCI BR4) make for more accurate loads. That being said, you may not see any difference in a large powder capacity case.

I read somewhere that benchrest primers are identical to regular primers other than the person making them has more experience. Don't know how true that is but... if you do get what you pay for, maybe they would be worth it.

I ue CCI BR2 only in my 223 for my loads. I do not know if it makes them shoot any beter but I like them.
You can sub the BR2 in for any 200 on just about any load. SOme powders require 200M primers do not sub in the BR2. The BR2 has the priming compound laied out by a highly experianced person where the other primers are done with a machine. I do think it is a slightly different mix on the priming compound as well. nothing that would change the rate but i think it makes it more consitant. |
