Winchester USA ammo, which powder used?

Anyone know which powder Winchester uses in their 45ACP 230GR FMJ white Box USA ammo?

Thanks

even if we knew

Manufacturers use powders unavailable commercially.

Yes.

They use a non-canister version of 231 (they call it internally 230, IIRC).

Technically it is the same thing as what is available commercially, but the canister powder that you can buy at the gunshop is normally blended from multiple manufacturing lots whereas the powder used to load factory ammo may be from a single production lot.

The purpose of the blending process is to get a powder that consistently has the same characteristics as every other can of the same powder you've bought over the years. The blending process allows the manufacturer to maintain that consistent performance can after can, year after year.

Same caveat applies as what I state above.

WW 296 is a powder that's distributed to reloaders.

Winchester doesn't use 296, per se. They use a powder that is very similar to 296, but which comes from a single lot, as opposed to being blended to achieve a consistent performance band that is then released to handloaders.
