NEW Brass...Issues...

Hello all,

Ordered 100 pcs of NEW Unprimed Remington 7mm STW brass. Oddball caliber for me. Yet I was suprised it was available. Brass looks good , bulk packed and the necks need to be run thru a die, no big deal, but out of the 100 pcs, found 15 with split necks. Was pretty dissapointed to say the least, I have fireformed Remington 22-250 to 22-250 Ackley 40deg. and didnt lose any. Any thoughts? Luck of the draw? Would think the new brass would still be neck soft, I know it work hardens, but at $0.44 each I would think they would start off a little better.

Anyhoot, loaded up a bunch with 72.9gr of H4831, and 139gr Horn SST. Should put them out at about 3300fps. Soon as it dreis out going to set-up and find out.

New brass should not have had any split necks.

I feel the same way Hank, I know the liabilities and risks of handloading , but the components themselves should not be failed right out of the box/bag. Thinking I might send them back to Remington.
Any thoughts?

split necks

I would definately contact Remington about this problem. There should not be any splt neck cases leaving their plant. I would think Reminton would welcome any information of a faulty product so they can correct the problem.

Call Remington or the dealer you purchased your brass. I don't think you'll have any problems with the former. They are more than willing to make things right. Plus if they have a bad run on their lot, it would be helpful for them to be informed...

UPDATE----Solution

Got a hold of Black HIlls Shooters Supply. They repackage the bulk Remington brass. Greap people, said no problem, will send out more, free of charge, include a few extras too boot. They even issued a call tag for the defective pieces, but I mailed them back to them for a good compromise. Quality people there. Anyone ever try getting a hold of Remington customer service, for retail products???
