It's not about stuck brass - I lube the case neck because sometimes the expander will pull the shoulder forward if it comes out too hard, making the cases hard to chamber. Just makes things easier, but it you're not having a problem it's not necessary.

Imperial Sizing Wax is the best there is. I started using it right after I got a case stuck with the spray stuff.

Usually the case neck is given a dry lube. The Imperial brand has a small tin of graphite you can dip a neck in. Neco sells steel shot coated in molybdenum disulfide powder. You put the neck into the shot and turn it. Lee or Hornady used to sell small white plastic bristle brushes that came in a case you filled with motor mica. You shook the case which coated the brushes, then ran the case mouths over the brushes.
Or you could get a carbide expander ball and not worry about it. One thing to watch out for. It has been pretty well-established that consistent start pressure is significant to accuracy - even in pistol loads. You don't want case necks lubed differently from one another. You may need different loads for the best accuracy with different neck lubes.

Havent used lube for +25 years
As Unclenick said it best
"get a carbide expander ball and not worry about it." I reload 6mm REM, 223, 30.06, and 300 mag. http://www.sinclairintl.com/ Sinclair has them for just about every type of die made from $11 to $24. One of the best companies to do business with and a terrible store to visit if you want to stop spending money. I should know, every time I tell my wife I'm going to Sinclair’s she bows her head in sorrow. It’s the "Toys are us" store for gun NUTS. |
