Availability of lead shot

Howdy -

Anyone have a good source for buying #8 shot? Most of the local retailers (northeastern Illinois) have been out for weeks, and I'm running low.

thanks

And shipping charges won't be a treat, either.

I suggest you go to http://www.gunshopfinder.com/ and start a search outward from your location. See if you can find something within driving distance? Otherwise, Cabalas does both retail and mail order and carries it.

Thanks for the link.

Shipping prices or gas prices, looks like I'm paying through the nose either way.

Might just have to buy cheap factory stuff.

10s, check with your local skeet and trap ranges. They often run group buys or club deals involving truckload lots. If you are serious enough to buy in volume, it can be a real savings.

Thanks, Leftoverdj. Both of the ranges near me have been out of stock for a while with no ETA.

Has anyone else had trouble finding shot?

Check this place in South Dakota. They are out of the common sizes of standard lead, but have magnum shot available for about 4% more ($24 a bag instead of $23). So if the higher antimony shot is agreeable for your use, maybe that's the way to go?

Their shipping prices are way better than what I've found so far. I'll give them a try.

Thanks, Nick.

I just received 50lbs of 7 1/2 from them and am very pleased with their quick response and low (relatively) shipping. Remington branded shot.

Then again, you might check with your local club(s) and see if they would be interested in this:

Pops,

That's cool. Does it require you to have a shot tower out in the yard? I wonder what a used silo goes for these day?

That actually looks kind of interesting.

Anyone know anyone who's used the Littleton Shotmaker?

I never got into casting my own bullets, but that seems like it would be fairly straightforward. Don't have to pour lead into molds or apply lube, etc.

Thanks for recommending Precision Reloading in SD.

Great service - ordered 4/18, arrived 4/20. Shipping was only $10 for 50 lbs.

What you see in the pic is the whole deal. I've seen it running on a table at the gun show.

Just discovered that Burgess is not living here in Moses Lake any more. I don't yet know where they have moved, but will post when/if I find out.

The forum has a cell number for one of the guys, but I haven't tried it yet.
