A friend has a Colt 1911 Series 70 with a frozen slide. What should he do?

Put it somewhere warm?
![]() Is it rusted shut, improperly assembled, or just "new" and very tight? In the first two cases, you'll probably need a gunsmith. In the last case, I think 500 rounds through the bore would loosen it nicely. [This message has been edited by BB (edited September 19, 2000).] |

Start taking it apart until you find out why. Will the slide stop or the recoil spring plug come out?

It is frozen in battery. I think it is the result of storing in a damp basement for a few months. I sprayed G96 down the barrel and up the magazine hole to try to free it up. Thanks for the help.
