Removing a Barrel (Armalite Bolt-Action AR30M)
I need to get the muzzle on my rifle threaded. I have a gunsmith that is willing to do it. It costs extra to ship the entire gun to him (which is on the other side of the country) and have him disassembly the rifle and thread the barrel. Ideally, I would just like to ship the barrel alone to have the work done and then reinstall it on my rifle myself once I receive it back from the gunsmith.
I was wondering if I can remove the barrel from my rifle myself (with the appropriate tools)? I've never done anything like this before, so please do laugh, but I like to learn new things that might come in handy in the future. How would I safely remove and reinstall the barrel from my Armalite AR30M bolt-action rifle? I can't seem to get a response from Armalite when I curiously ask them how to do this procedure. Here is what the rifle looks like (pictures attached - hopefully). Any insight you can offer is appreciated (good or bad). Has anyone worked with one of these before? Here is some information about the rifle: MODEL: AR-30M CALIBER: ..300 WIN MAG, .308 WIN, .338 LAPUA RECEIVER FORM: MODIFIED OCTAGONAL FORM, DRILLED AND SLOTTED FOR SCOPE RAIL BOLT: DUAL FRONT LOCKING LUG BARREL: 26" CHROME MOLY, 6 GROOVE RH 1:10 INCH TWIST MUZZLE DEVICE: CYLINDRICAL MULTIFLUTE RECOIL CHECK (STANDARD ON .338 - OPTIONAL ON .300 & .308 ) STOCK: 3 SECTION: EXTRUDED FOREND, MACHINED GRIP WITH VERTICAL GRIP, FORGED AND MACHINED REMOVABLE BUTTSTOCK FINISH: MANGANESE PHOSPHATED STEEL, HARD ANODIZED ALUMINUM OVERALL LENGTH: 48 INCHES WEIGHT: 12 POUNDS COMPLETE WITH: 15 MINUTE SCOPE RAIL, OWNERS MANUAL, LIFETIME WARRANTY Thanks for your gunsmithing insight. |
