Looking for a shorter 870 barrel.

Is there any online source for ordering shotgun barrels that is perhaps cheaper than most places? I'd like a shorter barrel for my old 870 12 gauge. The shorter the better, and the 18 1/2" is the shortest i've heard about.

I've tried Brownells and Midway and some other places and the average price seems to be $130. Does it get cheaper than that anywhere else?

Anything under 18" is just asking for trouble with the ATF, UNLESS it is titled as a class III ie machinegun. To me doing all the paperwork and the extra 200 bux for the tax just doesn't seem worth it.

The barrel on my Rem 870 is made by Mossberg (it's about 18), and I want to say it was $60-99 a couple years back - don't remember exact price, but it was under $100 for sure.

Here it is - there's one there for $73.97 at ultout.com:

Scroll down to the "Rem 870XBL" - product number U07897 / 90335. Looks like it's 18.5".

There's another product up above that called 870xbl for same price, number U07958 / 91335 - dunno what is what.

A short barreled shotgun is not a machinegun it is an AOW (Any Other Weapon). The paperwork is still considerable, but the tax stamp is only $5.

I don't think a short barreled shotgun is a AOW. Expect to pay 200 NOT 5.

As AUG suggested, it is only an AOW if it doesn't have a buttstock.
