.45 ACP - Lube Lead Bullets??
Big Question: Do I need to lube lead bullets that I load in my .45 ACP cases?
Background: I'm not new to reloading, but I am new to reloading with lead bullets. I've reloaded jacketed rifle bullets for years, but haven't reloaded for my pistols yet, and want to get going. Am I going to need some sort of bullet lube with the lead bullets I use? (Actually, they're an alloy, not pure lead.) I tried doing a search, but I couldn't find the answer. It looked like some people lubed, and others didn't mention it. Any info/links would be appreciated. |

if you are casting your bullets yes they need to be lubed. if you are buying commercially cast bullets they should already have lube on them

lube or not to lube
When you cast your own you must lube to size the bullet. I cast and load 45ACP. I don't need to lube as my dies make bullets that don't require sizing. I do lube with liquid Alox. it seems to reduce leading. Store bought bullets should already be sized thus lube is not required.

Bullet Source
For lead target bullets make an internet search for Zero bullet Co as they have been in business for many years.
![]() For magnum power lead bullets try Dry Creek Bullets and the owner known as Creeker Fitz Last edited by Paul Fitz Jones; July 1, 2004 at 10:32 PM. Reason: addition |
