AA#7 alternatives?
Accurate Arms products are becoming increasingly more difficult for me to find. Can anyone recommend a similar performing powder by Hodgdon or Alliant (not Blue Dot) for 10mm?

HS-7 should be a good fit. Here is a burn rate chart: http://www.loadyourown.com/burnrate.htm
I think you will find the site has other interesting info. |

Have you checked out the IMR powders?
http://www.imrpowder.com/handgun/10mma_index.html 800X is about the closest to AA7 in burn rate, as it is only a tiny bit faster. Strong points: 800X will give you much higher velocities at lower pressures. Gives excellent accuracy. A little less muzle flip per equal velocity, due to lower pressure. Only drawbacks I have found are: meters within 0.1 to 0.2 grains plus or minus. Leaves a black pepper residue on everything around the pistol. fairly significant flash on lighter, faster loads. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
If not searching for escape velocity ammo, try Power Pistol.
(Or, Blue Dot.) Rumor.............Longshot may work. HS6 and 7 will work. |

I think I'm gonna give the Longshot stuff a try. Heard a couple good rumors about it.

AndABeer:
Now your talking. But I thought you wanted AA7 duplication, not max performance I use Longshot in a 40S&W compact with 180 Gold Dots as my personal defense and accuracy load. It yields 1099fps with less than an inch groups at 25 yards. And thats from a 3.65inch barrel. But if you want more impressive results in a 10MM, try 1162 FPS with a 200 gr bullet, VihtaVuori N105 http://www.vihtavuori.fi/vihtavuori/index.html Last edited by Shoney; May 18, 2002 at 02:28 AM. |

If you are looking for something that can bring the velocities, many folks are apparently having good success with Vectan SP2 powder.
The drawback to Vectan powders is that there's not too much data out there, and the company's website is not too good. |
