Swift Scirocco on elk?

What are the collective opinions of the group on loading the 150gr, Swift Scirocco in a 7mm mag for a combination mule deer/elk hunt next fall? Is the bullet tough enough to handle an elk?

Any idea where I could find load data for this bullet?

Why not?

Actually, I don't have any data specifically for the Scirocco bullet or the 7mm Remmag, but, I can tell you a few things that I've learned over the years...

First thing is, you could hunt Elk/Muley's with a 416 Rigby, but if you can't put the bullet where it needs to go, you are wasting your time and hurting an animal unnecessarily. This is bad.

Judging from some of the cutaways that I've seen of these type bullets, they look plenty tough. I'd hazard a guess that they would give excellent performance in Muley's and Elk - all day.

Since that bullet has a thicker than normal jacket, I would tend to think that if you were to use data for a solid Barnes type bullet as a starting point, you'd find that you probably wouldn't have to experiment too much to find an adequate load. Just find a load for a 150 grain 7mm RemMag Barnes X-type bullet, and back it off a tad.

I don't have it in front of me, but I will bet you a donut that the Lee Reloading Manual has data for this load (in an X-type Barnes) that you can use for your loads. They might even have scirocco data, it would be worthwhile to check.

There's at least one Ammo manufacturer that uses Scirocco in their premium ammo. Don't know if it's Federal or Remington, but they offer it. This tells me that it is probably pretty good stuff - especially since they actually advertise that they use that specific type of bullet. With this evidence, and if I were you, I wouldn't hesitate using these bullets to go after the big guys.

It might get a tad expensive working up a good load that your rifle likes, but in the long run, I think you will be pleased with that bullet. Let us know how you make out.

Biathlon, I have no experience with the Swift Scirroco, but I have used their A-Frame bullets with excellent results in the .270 Win(140gr) and .375H&H(300gr.) Expansion appears to be slower than the Nosler Partition(also excellent) and penetration leaves nothing to be desired. The A-Frames are loaded by Remington in their Safari ammo. I can't imagine Swift making a bad bullet.7mm mag seems to me like a splendid elk/mulie cartridge . Good luck, Rob
