Yes, we need the back story on this. I am guessing that your friend thinks "blue" makes better ammo (LOL). Jim |

He does indeed. Bless the fellow, he's a good guy and an old friend of mine. He's just very hard headed (aren't we all though?). We're shooting partners and something always comes up about how superior his ammo is, and how hassle free his press is as well. Both of our ammo is just as accurate and both go bang every time. Both presses have their quirks, and I enjoy that mine might have a few more. This isn't meant to be one of those kool-aid debates, but I'm under the impression that his blue kool-aid machine somehow imparts each round with some mystical powers that only he can see. I've used his press and I do agree that is it a very well put together machine. That being said, I still have quite the bond with my Lee.
So I've come to settle it. If it's color that makes him happy, my magic 550 LEE LM will have to do. Pictures tonight. The set up reminds me of spiderman (blue press with red powder-well and akro bins), but that just makes it more special. |

I actually asked him to record me loading a few rounds and inserted my sarcasm while he was filming. He laughs in the video about it.....

Pictures of the 550 LEE LM.
Hope you like them. I laughed about the whole time putting this thing back together.

I can hardly wait for the upcoming range report which will detail the now mystical properties imparted to your cartridges via the new, improved and "blue" press.

Betcha' if you just show him the pictures, he won't know it's not his favorite brand.
Say it's a brand new model and invent a bunch of neat stuff about it. And it's so new, that it's not even in their catalog as yet. But if he calls them they will share the secret. Should be worth a few laughs. |

Nice paint job, looks great. I had to look a couple times to see that it is indeed a LoadMaster. I almost gave up my lunch when I looked at the first picture. I must be a Lee fanatic, let me know when you paint it red again. (you will)

"Hey Mike, Look what Dillon sent me to test? Did you know they bought out Lee and are trying to improve the product line?"
Oh, the fun you can have. |

Holy cow! His face went from , to , to in 2 seconds flat.
I told him that Lee and Dillon were working together to make an anniversary press, and called it the 550 LEE LM, as suggested earlier in the thread. I think the look on his face alone was worth the entire thing. Thank you all for the support and suggestions. I loved it. Now, I think I'm starting to miss all of that red being on my bench. I think it's awesome, the whole idea is funny and I fully support it.
I also think your work on it is stellar. Aside from brands and tools and leaving all of that out of it -- I absolutely love the color blue, always have, and I'm attracted to things in blue, especially that shade of it, and I don't think it could possibly look more pleasing to my eye. I love Lee stuff, not every single thing they offer, but most of it, I've been loading with Lee stuff for nearly a quarter century (holy crap!) and I loaded a mind-numbing amount of ammo in 2011 using almost all Lee equipment. I've not had the pleasure to use a Dillon press, but I'm no idiot-- if I found the need for higher volume and I had the spare jack, I'd outfit a 550 or 650, with no regrets. But bottom line?! If Lee or an aftermarket offered the same Lee press for a $10 or $20 upcharge for YOUR shade of blue, I'd probably damn buy it, just 'cause I think it looks that terrific. Heck yeah, I'm serious, and I'm as big a tightwad as the rest of you tightwads in here. That's looks friggin' great. I love it! Big thumbs-up.

Great job!
And should the old workhorse no longer suit your needs, now you know you could sell it for a profit

Which Ford blue is it, old Ford blue or Ford blue? Mine(RL300 very old) is the lighter shade.
