Hornady 366 Progressive Shotshell Loader - New Primer Feeder Tube
Hey folks,
I just installed a new primer feeder tube with shutoff capability on my Hornady 366 progressive in 12 guage. I had ordered the primer feed tube shutoff and a new spring loaded primer seater punch for the press, but the seater punch was not sent with the rest of the order. Of the two upgrades for the Hornady 366, I had really wanted the spring loaded primer seater because it is supposed to allow you to change from one hull to another without constantly adjusting the primer seater. I really was not all that interested in the primer feeder shutoff, but I thought I would try it. It took about twenty minutes to make the change (including time to adjust the parts), and it only required the use of an adjustable wrench for the process. It cost about $25 for the new shutoff which included a whole new tube and primer dropper. The new primer feed system still uses the same auto feeder that sits on the top of the tube, and it really does work as described. If, while loading shells, one wants to shut off the primer feed for some reason, you only have to move a spacer on the drop tube and insert a clip. It really is very easy to operate. Is it worth it? That depends on how much $25 means to you. I like it just fine, but, if it had been available 20 years ago when I still had kids to raise, I would not have spent the money on it. Now, it is a nice, if not necessary, improvement. It is Hornady part No. 10053. I am still waiting for the new spring loaded primer seater. It is Hornady part No. 10051 and costs about $18. If it works as well as the primer feed cutoff works, I will be quite pleased. If I want to change from Win AA hulls to Remington hulls, I have to adjust the primer seater. This new spring loaded one is supposed to eliminate the problem, and that will certainly be worth the money to me. That's it for my product review. Hope someone finds it useful. Best wishes, Dave Wile |
