Shot My First Reloads Today!

Wow. That about sums it up. I started reloading just about three weeks ago and with the help of some folks here and a friend of mine that lives near me, I may have found the load for my Ruger SRH 7 1/2 inch 44 mag revolver. My revolver is topped with a Simmons Gold Medal 2X scope. I started shooting at 25 yards and consistently hit one inch high dead center with holes touching holes. Backed up to 50 yards and did just about the same thing having holes touching holes in some cases. I want to get good at these distances before going any further and I must mention this was off a bench with a good hold.

Just want to thank you guys who answered my questions on relaoding. I'm sure that I will have alot more questions.

I'm using Remington brass, CCI 350 large magnum pistol primers, IMR4227 Powder, and Hornady 200 grain XTP bullets.

Ron,

Congratulations!

Now you know why so many of us reload.

Crafting those special reloads to suit your own shooting requirements, and saving money at the same time, makes shooting that much more enjoyable.

Many reloaders do it for the improved accuracy, or to get that special handgun with fixed sights, to shoot exactly to point of aim.

I reload for another reason, and that is because I like reloading! I find it challenging, rewarding, relaxing, and enjoy it almost as much as shooting.

Congratulations Ron

When I started I thought I was doing it to save money. I do save but reloading is enough fun that I would do it even if it cost more than factory rounds.

Enjoy

How many fingers do you have left? Just kidding.

I started with 44 mag myself. Nice big straight-wall, good learning caliber.

If you're like me, you won't save money but you will shoot more for the same money.

Congratulations Ron ,

I bet it makes you feel good to be able make your own ammo and to shoot it in your gun. It might be alittle bit scary at first wondering if there will be some type of big explosion when you pull the trigger. Sounds like you have made it past hurdle number one. Just always be careful when loading and keep a clear mind when loading. Pay real close attention during the powder charging step. This was always the most critical step to me. Grabing the wrong powder by mistake can be very dangerous. I think you will realize the chance to shoot alot for less money and you will be able to customize your ammo for your guns. I wish you lots of fun while you load thousands of rounds in your future of reloading.

I remember shooting my first reload, a .357 JHP, many years ago. I was scared poopless. I had two sets of safety glasses on, gloves, thick longsleeved shirt, and even wrapped a scarf around the lower part of my face but all was well and it went bang not boom.

Yes it was a little scary at first but I'm very meticulous about what I do, especially the powder charge step. I was amazed at how accurate this revolver was with my new load. Even though the furthest I shot was 50 yards off a bench. I'm still a little concerned about hunting deer with a 200 grain Hornady XTP, but I know of some guys that have taken deer with no problem with this particular bullet and the load is so good I don't want to switch to a 240 grain XTP.
