Pietta barrel problem

I have a Remington new model army, by Pietta. Carbon steel, .44 caliber, 8 inch barrel. There is a small cut, maybe 1/16 or a little more across the bottom of the bore. I believe the mill was set a little to deep when the dovetail was cut for the base of the loading lever latch pin. This is what it appears to be as the base is the same distance back from the muzzle as the cut. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I do not see much of a fix for it, other than replace the barrel or cut the barrel off to resemble the sheriff's model. Certainly is not good for accuracy, and a place for fouling.

Are you meaning the dovetail cut actually cut all the way into the bore?

Is it still under warranty? If so -- send it back.

An actual hole in the barrel? Back to the factory, absolutely.

Yes there is actually a hole, or what appears to be a hole in the barrel. The revolver is not under warranty at this time. I have contacted Pietta but have not had a reply as yet.

Perhaps a first?

I can't say I've ever heard that before, a gun with a hole in the barrel. Warranty or no, Pietta should fix this....sheesh!

A barrel is $99 from VTI, $100 from Pietta, plus the trouble and expense of having it put on, if they don't come across with a replacement.

I once had an inexpensive reproduction SAA - you know how the importers advertise that their imports are "specially selected". Well this was one of the leftovers. It had a bump, although not a clear hole, in the bore under the ejector rod housing stud. It was a pretty blunt instrument and I can't say it affected the shooting.

So I would be prepared to shoot the fool thing if Pietta does not make good.

Ask on THR, they have a couple of cap and ball gunsmiths to get good information from.

An unintentional hole is the barrel is not a "gas" vent. Either shorten the barrel, shorten the loading arm and resolder the catch OR replace the entire barrel.
