Recommending a SW revolver

I own a Smit and Wesson 637 (38 spl, 5-shot) and 686 SSR (357 Mag, 6-shot). If I will only buy one more SW revolver, which one would you recommend?

Model 27 to me is the ultimate S&W, a thing of beauty in a 4” barrel.

Pinned and recessed 27 is a thing of beauty.

8 3/8 pinned and recessed 25 is also on my bucket list.

The new 686 mountain gun may be the best all around utility revolver that they have made yet. Specs look great. We will see when I can get my hands on one.

Many thanks for all the replies.

I think I really like the Model 627: 8-shot 357 Mag.

Ditto. The Registered Magnum is always on my "Maybe this year" list.

I just wish they'd ditch the internal lock on this model though. It might move closer to the top of the list then.

Which one I would recommend depends on what you want it to be and do. First decide that, then go from there. You've got a dedicated .38 and an L frame .357, so do you want something that replicates those or something either above or below that level of performance???

S&W has made some very fine .22s over they years, the Model 17s (and variants) are fine guns, if you wanted something smaller than a .38 I would go with one of those.

On the upper end, any of the N frames made back when the barrels were pinned and the chambers recessed and before that ridiculous lock would be a good choice, .357, 41, .44, or .45 calibers.

Stainless isn't a requirement for me, and I don't do 8 shot revolvers. I will not recommend any S&W with the lock, nor do I care for the "production improvements" that began in the 80s and are rampant today. Just my personal opinion, worth what you paid for it, probably less.

They have some nice new no-lock guns that are worth a good look.

74A95, are you able to comment on how the new no lock guns compare to the old P&R revolvers?

For me, a collection of S&W revolvers starts with a 4" K frame chambered in 38 Special.

You have the 38 special and 357 magnum covered ...

Think about a nice 22 LR revolver with adjustable target sights .

Truth be known ... I find shooting 22 LR Revolvers a lot of fun .
The revolver can shoot any ammo , CB caps , shorts , longs , Long Rifle ... no feeding / ejection problems and no magazines to contend with !

That would depend on what you like.
From your current collection, looks like .38/357. In that light, I would recommend a 4" M19 or a 5" M27 (earlier, pre-lock).
But you might also consider a .44Spl or .45LC N-frame.
Or if you have an inner Clint Eastwood, maybe even an M-29...
Too many good choices.
