Looking for info on my wifes S & W AIR WEIGHT
Looking for a model number and DOB for a s & w revolver i bought my wife. Also what kind of hammer is this ? serial # j293xxx. Thanks for the help Mark

Date of manufacture is 1975-1976, according to the Standard Catalog of Smith& Wesson.
It could be either a Model 37, a Chief's Special Airweight. Or a Model 38, a Bodyguard Airweight. |

So how do i know which one it is. It has a short hammer.

Look up S&W Model 38, it has a shrouded hammer, with just the tip exposed for cocking single action.
A Model 37 looks like a standard Chief's Special, with a normal hammer. Photos would help. |

The model number will be stamped on the frame where you open the cylinder
