Dumb First World Problem

Hi All,

I waltzed into my LGS the other day and came away with a Kel-Tec CP-33. This was my first purchase after about 10 years of being away from shooting. In my excitement I also purchased a Vortex Defender-ST to go on top.

Previously I would have never done such a thing...I've always had cheap red-dots on my .22's. But now I have this somewhat-nice one and it is a waste on this pistol IMO.

So I'm trying to figure out what to do with this red dot. My choices seem to be as folows:
  1. Sell the Vortex
  2. Mount it on one of my other pistols
  3. Buy a new pistol and mount it on that
I really don't want to sell the Vortex bc I think it is a neat little red dot. It has "shake to wake" and all that. As to mounting it on an existing pistol, well, currently I have a Sig P220-R5 and a CZ-75 P07 Duty. I don't think either of them lend themselves to optics mounting. So I'm thinking NEW PISTOL

I'm looking for a pistol that I can mount the vortex on without having to mill the slide or otherwise have a gunsmith work on it. What do you guys suggest? I haven't kept up with pistols in the last 10 years...a lot of them seem to be available with factory red dots these days. Does that mean that a lot of them are available with some sort of red dot mounting system too? Or do I need to plan on drifting out the rear sight and install some sort of 3rd-party plate adapter or something?

I'm open to just about anything...honestly I've been thinking of just buying a Glock 17 bc I know the aftermarket support is vast and I should be able to DIY that pistol however I want to. So anyway, metal frame, poly frame, striker-fired, DA/SA, doesn't really matter. I just want to know what choices I have and what to look for. I've never really looked into mounting an optic on a pistol that didn't already have a pic rail on top.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, and merry Christmas!

New pistol is the only logical and obvious solution.
I'm not an authority on handguns--but a forum member runs a shop and is advertising deals on caniks down below, looks interesting to me.

That will fit directly on a Springfield Hellcat since it’s the RMR footprint, as long it’s one of the Hellcat models already milled for a Red Dot.

@jetinteriorguy thank you so munch for this info...you don't know how much i appreciate it. As i look at this little sight i realize that it is actually 2 pieces - the sight itself, and an RMR-pattern pic rail adapter. So now i know what to look for. Merry Christmas!

I need to get a pic rail adapter, I removed the red dot on mine because it just didn’t work for me and would like to put it on my 9mm carbine. The only reason I added the RD was because I was shooting about an inch left at ten yds and no matter what I tried I couldn’t get the rear sight to budge. For the life of me I just couldn’t learn to acquire the sight fast enough for defensive needs. Well I got some suggestions here on getting the sight to move and I managed to get it adjusted so now I’m good since I really like the factory sight.

Actually that fits the RMSc type optic. That optic fits the larger dpp footprint. Most of the full size pistols with optics cuts should be adaptable.

Like M&P 2.0… also a good pcc optic with puc rail adapter.

I stand corrected, I remembered incorrectly. Thanks for that clarification. The old memory ain’t what it used to be.

No problem. I wasn’t really trying to correct you. I just didn’t want the wrong information on this page.

I’m slightly confused myself. When did Delta point Pro become some kind of standard? Somebody needs to turn this around. We need pistol optics in micro and standard and one good mounting platform for each of them, preferably with some mechanical lock in the recoil direction instead of just hoping the micro screws will hold.
