250-Yard Flintlock Rifle Shooting

I've always been interested in re-creating the long-range shooting accomplishments of America's Revolutionary war era riflemen, and this year's Historic Camp at Springbrook gave me the opportunity to shoot at 250-yard distant targets with a flintlock rifle.

In the video you'll see long range shooting, as well as the rifle, the load and the aiming techniques that got the job done.

I just got around to watching it. Great shooting and a nice rifle.

the first shot fired at the battle of new orleans was a off hand shot with a flinter at a british officer at 213 yards at a brithish officer. morg got him through the head. then the battle began. of all the british that went against the 500 tenn boys in the center of the fight never got closer than 98 yards, most were killed with head shots. about 3500 brits fell that day. only 11 of the americans, most of those were native american scouts who got caught in a cross fire the night before scouting. if your looking to shoot long distance with a flinter GO FOT IT, as if you build it like they did back then and load it like they did you will be able to do what they did. i have taken a deer at 175 yards with a 45 round ball side lock. because i built it like they did and used real black and linen patches. like they did. again, GO FOR IT AND HAVE FUN.

Well done Mike. Most riflemen of the Revolutionary War went prone to make shots like that. You and your buddies did it offhand and you did it with a heavier swivel gun!

I am so impressed!

Besides the fact that with my eyesight I probably could not even see the gong that far away, even if I could I know I could not hit it.

I am so impressed by guys who can shoot a rifle that accurately at long range.

I was happy to hit some CAS targets with my Trapdoor at about 75 yards, from a rest.

By the way, your swivel breech rifle is really cool.
