I believe it was an attempt to make primers less toxic (that evil lead,ya know). I doubt if anyone saved any money by using the then new non-toxic primers, and at that time they were prolly more expensive. The original NT ammo was meant to give off less toxic fumes for shooting indoors, perhaps instigated by police depts or military?

I reload both. Deprime them, clean them together. I sort them after cleaning. Once primed, since they will be just going to the range they get dumped back together and reloaded together. For my plinking, I don't notice any difference.

I actually called and talked to a Federal ENGR, about small primer .45 acp brass. Was told the only difference is the primer and place of MFG. I've loaded many hundreds small primer .45's and tested them against large primer .45' over the crony with no apparent difference with same load. hdbiker
