44 Mag Cast Bullet Loads

Hey, I'm looking for some accurate loads with cast bullets for a Dan Wesson Revolver. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have found Lyman 49th edition to have a very nice listing on .44 mag cast loads from light 210gr through 300gr bullets and a wide variety of powders. Lee 2nd also has decent selection.

As you search through the forum, I think you will find (as did I a while back) that 10.0 gr of Unique and a 240gr cast lead bullet will do very well. I don't have a chrony but others have stated that it gets around 1000 fps depending on barrel length. That's a pretty good thump to anything hit with it. It is a very accurate load in my 4" Redhawk and my favorite recipe for my 240gr lswc cast bullets.

I second the 10.0gr of Unique. I use it with Lymans 429421 bullet in my Ruger Super Blackhawk

9.0 gr of W231/HP-38 with any GC SWC from 235-265 grains gives midrange velocity (1100-1200 fps) and great accuracy out of my 629 Classic 6.5 inch.

Instead of Unique I use 22.7 grains of 296 and one of my cast and gaschecked 240 grain SWCs from a Lee Mold.

I use the same book as Duster340. I usuall load a 240 SWC with Trailboss (if you can find it). Makes a excellent plinking round that even recoil nervous shooters can handle.

Are you going for light, non-mag paper puncher loads, light to moderate mag loads, or deer loads?
