246 RN

Does anyone know who sells the classic .44 spec. 246 rn bullet, not the cartridge just the bullet?

Remington occasionally loads a 246 RN in their .44 Special factory ammo.
When they do, the 'overrun' bullets often show up in larger merchants' inventory. (Midway, Cabela's, etc.)

However... I don't think that that 'seasonal run' product will be on the production schedule any time soon. They have other, more profitable and more popular priorities.

It's not 246 grains, but Rim Rock Bullets (rimrockbullets.net) offers a 240 grain round nose in their cowboy bullet product line.

Thanks Hammie, I cast a round nose 250gr with my alloy Lee already. I've been looking to try the swaged bullet that I believe has a hollow base. Remington's swaged .455 works so good in my SAA I thought the 246 would be great in my Mod21-6.

@salvadore: You're likely right about using the remington swaged bullet.

When I was searching for your round nose, I was also looking for a supplier of .44 caliber wad cutters for myself. Wad cutters are not easy to find. I think the only source for a .44 caliber wad cutter mold is saeco.

I have an RCBS lubri-sizer, a furnace, top punches, and even an adequate supply of lead ingots. I've just never used them. They have sat on the shelf for years. I've always been leery about working around so much molten lead (sort of how I feel about working around radial arm saws) and have been content to buy my cast bullets from cast bullet makers. It seemed better to let the commercial makers take the risks.

Probably I just need to buy some molds, and jump in, and start casting.

I found this one as a thumper for my larger .44 spec but it casts to 250gr.

I was kinda hoping to find someone who cast Lyman's 180 grain WC to load for my 18 OZ. Mountain lite
