reloading hints

Im reloading for rifles since 2000 and figured out most of my favorite loads by trial and error.
I always bought all kinds of powders and bullets for the loads from the lyman reloading book and just tried what works well. Takes lots of money and time... I know there are some ways to tell which rifle likes which loads though.
I feel ashamed to say i dont know any of them.

so what does barrel length, rate of twist, number of grooves, etc tell me about which kind of bullet powder combination i should use for best performance.
Please post all the basic rules you know about.

I stay with the standard weight ranges for my rate of twist and use Lymans boldly printed accuracy loads first. Lyman is not kidding about their accuracy loads, they never let me down.

One other thing is the brass. It has become very clear that the more brass prep you do, the better the load will be. Bullet seating. I take very much care to seat the bullet (or boolit) as carefully as possible. I usually seat the bullet slightly and then lower the ram and rotate the case and gently continue seating it, This allows the bullet to right itself if it entered the case slightly cocked.

Bear, I actually just found some great charts for bullet weight and twist rate.

http://www.riflebarrels.com/products...wist_rates.htm

http://www.shilen.com/calibersAndTwists.html

To find what the twist rate is for your specific rifle, google it. I did that for all mine and it's seems like most the leg work is already done for you.
