Cimarron not Uberti ?

While not new to single actions ( Rugers and USFA ) I am just getting my feet wet on import SA. I bought a Taylor/Uberti runnin iron and really like it alot.

Yesterday I picked up a new Cimarron SA, birdshead grip, 4.75. The gun was tagged as a Frontier and the barrel is marked Thunderball 8 45 colt on the side and Cimarron on the top. The salesman told me that the gun was indeed Uberti. When I got it home I found a Pietta 1873 SA manual in the box.

My question is what did I buy?

I cant find any mention of a Thunderball 8 on anyones web sites. Old model maybe?

The manual being in the box doesn't mean that the gun is a Pietta.
AFAIK Cimarron marked guns are Uberti's.
I suggest to contact Cimmaron and ask them for details.

All of Cimarron's single action six shooters are made by Uberti. I've never heard of a "Thunderball". Cimarron makes a "Thunderer", basically an 1873 with a bird's head grip.

Ok I called Cimarron today and they told me indeed this is a pietta. Its not in there catalog yet as it was just brought out in January.

Thunderball colt 45.

Huh, you learn something new everyday. First time I've heard of Cimarron importing Pietta made revolvers. I guess Cimarron is satisfied with the quality upgrades that Pietta made in recent years.

Interesting! I think we all would love to see a photo of it. I'm also hoping that you'll post a report on how it shoots and how you like it. Sounds like something that I'd like to add to my "herd"!

I've heard good things of late on the Piettas. The EMF Great Western IIs are the most common Piettas and have a good rep in SASS circles...possibly better than Uberti.

A Taylor's Running Iron or Smokewagon will be at the same level of fit and finish as an Uberti "El Patron", which is the best gun Uberti can make.

I am new to posting pictures so cut me some slack.

The target is from 10 yards, standing two hand grip. trust me this is really good for me. With my 1911 I can do head shots all day at 25 yards. I got the SA bug about a year ago and started buying Rugers and USFA and I can honestly say that I can shoot this gun better than any of the others. The trigger is light and smooth much like my S&W 586.
