38 SPL Resizing Question

I just spent the afternoon adjusting my new Hornady reloading dies and as I was resizing the brass I notices the brass was being mared. I checked the die for foriegn particales but found none. I am looking for an email address to send this picture to Hornady and get there opinion but have not found a contact that I can attach a pic file. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or do I need to contact Hornady for a solution? I don't have these markings on the 9mm or S&W 40 brass that I have reloaded. I loaded a couple of rounds and they fit the cylinder ok but. This will be my first time to attach, I hope it works.

If you mean the surface scoring, that's not common on new dies but it is on older dies. Typically caused by too little case lube resulting in galled bits of brass on the die wall. It gets worse with time until you have to polish it out to prevent serious - deep - case scratching.

Bummer.

I thought you were over-reacting until I saw the picture. That is not right. Looks like you're getting good advice from former posts. Keep us posted.

I had the same thing happen with a set of pacific dies,it made lines down the side of the cases after cleaning the dies several times I found nothing wrong with them.I replaced the die with a hornady carbide sizer die, problem went away. My brass looked the same as in the picture. Must be the die is just worn out.

All that you see is from a Brand New "New Dimension Die" and Titanium Nitride at that. Brand new and supposedly the best, "Go Figure".
