Does anyone know of ANYPLACE that may have it???

Just in case you don't know, HP-38 is the same as Win 231.

Where do you live? I have a 3lb sealed can not doing anything as I don't use it. It would be a trade only face to face........if you live anywhere near San Antonio Texas or Laredo. I'll trade even up in weight for Unique or AA5, if that helps.

They're re-labeling it as HP-38..........

W-231/HP-38

I've used both in .45 Colt. They meter through the powder measure identically, they shoot the same, they are the same. If I had both today I would mix them thoroughly to make one custom lot. Buy whichever is cheaper or available. It's an excellent powder that I no longer use because of so many choices that are also excellent. Still, if I found a killer deal at the gun show, I'd buy it and use it again. What are you using it for?

OP? Seems we might be better able to help if we knew where you are or often travel to.

I've also had somewhat of a difficult time finding 231. However, I've had no problem locating HP-38. On a quick trip to Arkansas for a funeral last week, I was fortunate to snag a lb. of 231 at a place north of Little Rock. Just keep looking... Seek and ye shall find.

can't find it here

in Pierce county, wa. About a month ago you couldn't find decent semi auto powder anyway. Now I can find Power pistol, unique, universal, aa+5, aa+2, ect., but no dang 231, no HP 38. If you any of you Pierce County readers know of a place, please do tell.

He's a long way from ya, way up there in New York. Since I am a San Antonio reloading enthusiast, I sent you a PM a few days ago... Thanks!

Our local bass pro shops has a lot of HP38. I picked up a pound just to try out 231 (hp-38 in another name). Seems like decent stuff but nothing better then good old bullseye. They had a lot on the shelves last time I looked.

Lakeland Gun Show

$74 for four pounds. And they had a few one pound and another four pounder. One pounders were $25.

W231

If I can't find W231/HP38, I use Clays which may be even better in the same calibers-.45ACP, .357 Mag(plinking loads), 38 Spec, 9mm Lug, 9mmMak.

Does this explain the situation…
From the Winchester Powder site:
"In March 2006, Hodgdon® Powder Company and Winchester Ammunition announced that Winchester branded reloading powders would be licensed to Hodgdon. Winchester Smokeless Propellants, the choice of loading professionals, are available to the handloader to duplicate the factory performance of loads from handgun to rifle and shotgun."

I just downloaded Hodedon's most recent Basic Reloading Manual, and from what I've seen, they list identical data for W 231 and HP-38. I suspect W 231 is hard to find because Hodgdon's marketing department is replacing it on stores' shelves with HP-38.

Might be a dumb question, but have you tried Hoffman's or Cabela's in CT?

Also, Natchez currently has 4lb 231 listed as In Stock on their site. http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm...0.231%20Powder

[QUOTE][Just in case you don't know, HP-38 is the same as Win 231/QUOTE]

There are other powders that are similar also. Is there a chart that would show powders that are the same?
Thanks

WW231 = HP38
WW296 = H110
WW760 = H414
WW540 (discontinued) = HS6
