Bullet Puller?
Any recommendations for a good puller?
I've reloaded for quite some time and whenever I've screwed up a round for whatever reason I've just tossed it - brass, primer, bullet, powder and all. A friend who saw me doing that said, 'Hey, get a bullet puller and salvage all that'. So.....what's good? I've never even seen one. BTW, I reload 9mm, 40S&W, 38 Spcl, 357 Mag and 45 Colt. Will a different puller or fittings be needed for each caliber? I don't reload rifle. |

Frankford arsenal has an impact puller. Works great and comes with all the inserts you'll need for pistol calibers. I think I paid about 15$ for it. I know Midway has them. Mine has paid for itself 50 times over. |

The simple impact style bullet pullers work fine. I use the RCBS shown at bottom of page. One model will work for all your pistol calibers. It is probably available at your local store that sells reloading supplies.

And before you get your new puller, just use a pliers, remove your die and, Ooopp's you are only reloading handgun cartridges

Saving the nose of a pulled bullet
I also use the RCBS puller, & would like to add:
Something I didn't think about when I first started using a kinetic puller, is the nose of a soft bullet gets a little banged up [esp. HP's], so if you want to re-use the bullet[s] & are as anal as I am about your reloaded ammo - cut a foam earplug in half & drop it in the puller to protect the nose from damage. I pull Federal Hydroshoks & Winchester Silvertip HP's from .380acp rds for my 357sig because I like "light & fast" & can't find them for sale ANYWHERE! The bullets deform slightly w/o the foam plug in place. Just my .02 |

I use the Hornady cam-lock puller. It mounts in the press, and uses a collet to grip the bullet. Instead of tightening the collet by screwing a T handle in/out, just a simple flip of the cam-lock lever does it.

Hey folks,
I have been using an RCBS bullet puller and have collected about five different size collets over the past 40 years. I also have the inertia type. I don't like pulling bullets, but if it has to be done, I would rather use the collet type puller which saves wear and tear on bullets and myself. Then I just read Andy's post about the Hornady cam-lock puller. I never saw or heard of it, but it sounds like it would really be a great way to go. After more than forty years of pulling with the same old collet screw down method, someone should have come up with something better, and it sounds like Hornady has. Thanks, Andy. That thing sounds real nice. Best wishes, Dave Wile |

Been using the Hornady inertia bullet puller for over 20 years without a problem and its easy, just need a solid surface to whack with it.

Pulled bullet noses
My RCBS impact puller has a foam insert in the bottom to prevent nose damage. It came with it installed. Mine's 10-12 years old.

I don't think it's the best... but the "funnest" bullet puller is a S&W 329PD with incorrectly crimped bullets and full magnum loads. Man, that recoil will pull them really well! (Don't ask how I know...)
I've used a Quinetics inertial puller for almost 20 years and it still works great. Luckily I haven't had to use it much... ![]() |

Just a note, but the pics of the Hornady cam-lock bullet puller don't show the lock nut on the adjusting screw that they now include. Works even better.
Mine even works in my co-ax press. Just a better mousetrap all the way around... Andy |
