Light and Eyes

If one does charge in batches, as others have said you can eliminate squibs by simply lighting and looking.
Yesterday, out of 200 rounds of 9mm dropping 3.8 grains of powder through my Lee Pro Powder equipment, I spotted one "lean" round that weighed in at
1.6 grains. Would have made a darn nice squib!
That's why I don't use my Lee Classic Turret with the index rod in, just cannot depend on accurate powder drops. Others say that they have never had a problem, go figure.

We are now venturing too far into the "what can possibly happen" territory, but a typical submachine gun will not load a new round after a squib, it will simply stop.

At the range... if you rely on rules (look now... look again... shine the light... look once more...) to avoid squibs, you should also develop simple rules of dealing with them. Squibs can also happen in commercial loads, and in the reloads that many ranges sell.

The secret to avoiding a squib load is to use the right kind of press. I can load 600 rounds in a day using a Lee Hand Press. It really builds up your forearm muscles and chest as well. And when your arms give out you can squeeze it between your knees like that rig that Suzanne Somers used to sell, the ThighMaster. The sized and belled cases go in a loading tray, my dispenser fills each one, and I get a visual check on every load. No Squibs!! And for you older, or obese, or other reloaders with "man breasts", a 600 round day really firms things up. I figure by the time I load another 10,000 rounds or so, I'll be able to take my shirt off at the beach.

I added a LED light to my press and look at every charge. If there is a squib I catch it before the bullet goes on to be seated.
