Dies for 6mm Remington Question?

Okay, so I have a full length sizing/depriming and a seating die from RCBS for my 6mm Remington set up. I know with factory unprimed brass you should always full length size on the first loading, which is what I will be doing. But, afterwards I would like to just neck size and keep my fire formed brass. So, do I want a collet die? I don't really know a whole lot about it as I am learning the whole reloading thing. Also, if I neck size, will that die have a deprimer stem? Should I have a die to open the mouth for the bullet seating or not?

Thanks,
F-C

Collet dies work well for neck sizing after the initial firing. If you don't feel like getting a collet die, you can also back out your full-length die about 3/4 turn and partially size the case, but I prefer collet dies.

Get the Lee collet neck sizing die. You'll love it. It makes loading rifle cartridges so much easier than with a full length die. No lube to put on or take off. Virtually no trimming required. Only works the case neck once instead of twice like a die with an expander ball does so it's easier on the brass. I also like the Lee dead length seater die. It comes with the collet die in the set. Yes, the collet die also deprimes as it resizes.

Okay, so the Lee dies wouldn't need an expander die then for the mouth of the cartridge, right? I know I want to have a Collet die, that was already decided. I just got the FL and Seating dies on a trade.

You don't need anything to expand the case mouth on bottleneck rifle cases unless you'll be loading lead bullets. The collet die squeezes the neck down on a mandrel which leaves the neck about .001" smaller than the bullet diameter. On my collet die for 270 Win, I had to polish the mandrel to a slightly smaller size before it would give my cases enought neck tension.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I just put a set of Lee Collet dies on the reloading list. Now, as soon as my $$$ gets here from the rifles sold on gunbroker.com I'm puttin' in the order! Can't wait to get reloading for the 45-70 and 6mm Remington.

Thanks again,
F-C
