Load Recommendation?

I need to help my Brother-in-Law work up a load for his Encore pistol chambered in .270 Win. Does anyone have any suggestions that we might consider.

I have the following powders:
Reloder 22
IMR 4350
XMR 4350
2700

He wants a lighter bullet to try and keep recoil manageable, maybe 110-120 gr. range, but still give decent performance on deer at close to medium range distances.

I have a set of RCBS neck-sizing dies that I can use, and he has been saving his brass from the Rem. Recoil-Reducing ammo that he has tried in it.

I'm not a hunter, so all I have is a quick opinion: Shooting .270 from a handgun is going to generate recoil. You pretty much know that full-well going in. It's one thing to try and "manage" the recoil for target or match shooting, but if the intended use is hunting, I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense to put recoil management ahead of terminal bullet performance on the animal.

Again, because I'm not a hunter, I don't know what's the most appropriate .270 bullet weight/design on deer in North America. But it seems to me that the handload you build should be tailored around it's ability to cleanly and effectively take the game long before it's recoil energy is considered. I should think it'd be a bullet significantly heavier than 120 grains.

A good way to reduce the recoil in ANY .270 caliber round would be to shoot it from a much heavier rifle.

Attention Brass rats and other reloaders: I really need .327 Federal Magnum brass, no lot size too small. Tell me what caliber you need and I'll see what I have to swap. PM me and we'll discuss.

The new Hornady manual (#7) has data for reloading 270 win for T/C Encore.
