Lead Cast
First, let me say thank you to all the contributors on this forum....these threads have been my life for about the past 2 months.
In the interest of saving money I would perfer to reload lead cast bullets. I like eBay but have no idea of knowing if the lead bullets I see on there are 'quality made' i guess you could say. --Has anyone ordered lead bullets off of eBay that were worth while, and wouldn't mind sharing who the seller was? I have an Springfield XD .40 w/ 5" barrel, and just off the bat I wouldn't assume that an all lead bullet compared to a jacketed one would be all that different when it comes to wear/tear and function of the pistol, but I'm no expert on this at all. --Are there certain precautions I should take when using lead cast bullets? --I assume there will be mucho extra cleaning of the barrel due to excess lead residue, correct or no? I'm still pretty new at this, just doing some window shopping and research on consumables before the UPS guy drops off my Lee Anniversary Kit this afternoon. |

Look on ebay for a seller named...darrinb I think. Or do a Google search for Insane Bullet Co. I've bought .40 S&W from him off Ebay and had pretty good results...they're a little dirtier than others but had no trouble firing about 200 of them last weekend. Pretty consistent bullets, you might hold off for a while as I just posted a thread asking if others here had experience buying from him before I order a few thousand.
After I shoot I just make sure to clean the bore, use a bore brush to get any leading out (it's gonna happen), and wash my hands after cleaning and shooting. Some indoor ranges do not like cast bullets being shot but you should be OK at an outdoor range. |

I've bought bullets from Magnus Bullets on eBay. I think his eBay name is thebulletguy. Good bullet; fair shipping charges. I've also picked up some Zero brand bullets from one vendor. Haven't had a chance to load them, but they seem pretty good. KEAD also sells on eBay, but I know he's behind in orders right now. All the Bullseye shooters in the Dallas area have overwhelmed him.
Hint about eBay...maybe you've already figured this out. If you're looking for say 200 grain SWC lead bullets for your .45 ACP, just do a search for "200 45 bullets"; that way you'll get everything in that category plus some you may not have found. I was searching for HBWCs and but I searched for "148 38 bullets". The search brought up some 148 WCHBs....the guy had reversed the bullet description. I try and buy from guys who will ship in the USPS flat rate box. The vendor I just bought from charged me $11.00 to ship 2,000 bullets and that's exactly what the postage was on the box....the kind of vendor I like...one who doesn't make his eBay fees up by overcharging for postage. |

Thanks guys, I'll be checking those guys out on eBay.
I'm not going to be shooting at an indoor range so using lead won't be a problem. I'm guessing though that hardness of the lead is going to determine how much lead fouling there will be, but I clean my guns religiously so it won't go unnoticed. |
