You're going to need a trip to the gunsmith. The 514 is not drilled or tapped for mounts, nor does it have the tip off .22 grooves. Either would be a straight forward job for your local smith.

You could contact Remington to see if they can send you a manual. The 514 is probably one of the simplest single shot rifles that Remington ever made. As I recall there are about 30 parts total including all springs, pins and screws. The rotating piece on the end of the bolt is the safety. Load one round into the chamber, fire, extract, load another.
Do you have any previous firearms experience? Clemson

Scope for Rem 514
Brownells has them. Weaver side mount. You need base which mounts to receiver with 4 screws and short or long mount depending on scope used. The scope mount is quick-detach from the base with two knurled-head screws if you just want iron sights.
About $14 for the base and $29-$34 for the mount, plus freight. I am an active gunsmith and have installed many of them. The directions that come with it are well written. However, you will need the drills and taps to mount the base to the receiver. Brownells has these as well. The cost of the tools, and the damage possible when an amatuer starts making chips, could make a trip to the gunsmith a better deal for you in the long run. |

Sounds like you are missing the ladder adjustment. You could call Remington, or almost any local gunsmith probably has several on hand.

Gun Parts Corp (www.gunpartscorp.com) has the "step" for the 514 at $1.70. If possible, buy a couple or buy something else to keep S&H charges reasonable.

Sir:
I forget what top base I used (weaver #) but I drilled and tapped on the absolute center-line if the 513 and put Weaver top mounts on - since they are so close together they MUST be absolutely centered. Harry B. |

I have a 512 which is just a 514 tube fed repeater. It must be a late model as it is grooved for a scope mount. You have already been told where to look Numrich etc. but try Ebay too. There is an excellent chance you can find a factroy reprint fairly cheap.
